FORMER Likuena striker Teele Ntšonyana has advised in demand Matlama striker Motebang Sera, who has been on trials with Bloemfontein Celtic, to take an offer that will benefit him in the long run.

The 2018/19 league player of the season and the top scorer with 18 goals had successful trails with the ABSA premiership side but the negotiations have stalled between the players’ agent and the team since last week and it is still unclear where the problem lies.

Celtic coach Lehlohonolo Seema has in recent weeks said his technical team was impressed with Sera’s performance during his three weeks’ stay in Bloemfontein but said it was now up to the team’s management and the player to agree on terms.

However, Sera was early last month called for trials at Free State Stars while it is also rumored that there are some National First Division sides who have shown interest in him with TTM leading the pack.

In an exclusive interview with this publication on Friday Ntšonyana , who once plied his trade in South Africa for Wits University (2000-2001), said the talisman should look for a win-win situation.

“This is a tough situation because we are working on assumptions but my advice would be that he needs to work for a win-win situation,” Ntšonyana said.

“If Celtic really needs him and he also needs to play for Celtic, he needs to negotiate a contract which will benefit him in the long run and not only focus on what Celtic is putting on the table at the moment.

“If money is the problem, then I guess he can still negotiate a contract that entails that if any team wants him from Celtic, he will get a cut or ask the team to help him with his welfare. That is if the problem is money.”

Ntšonyana said playing for Celtic will give Sera exposure unlike playing for lower division sides which are not given much attention.

“It is a huge opportunity to play for Celtic because they are playing in the premier league and that comes with exposure which can help him to be identified by other big paying teams. However, he needs to be sure that he doesn’t sign long contracts. He needs to make sound decisions because the level of exposure in the lower divisions is much lees.

“I am sure his intention is to play for premier league teams in South Africa, so it will be wise for him to sign for Celtic for now even if they are not offering much money because it will give him exposure.”

Teller, as the former Swallows and Arsenal striker is affectionately known, said he would be happy to see Lesotho exporting more players to bigger leagues.

“There is nothing that makes me happy than seeing our players getting deals in bigger leagues. That is good not only for the players’ lives but also for the country and our national team. We need to start exporting more players,” Ntšonyana said.
