THABILE Secker is on the verge of a return to the Premier League, the Sunday Express can exclusively reveal.
This time, Secker who was previously with the side as a player is heading back to coach the team.
According to sources close to the developments, Secker and Matlama have both agreed on personal terms although he is reportedly yet to sign a contract.
“The deal is almost sealed because the two parties have agreed on personal terms and what is left for Secker to come and sign the contract,” the source said.
“He will probably be announced as the head coach next week (this week).”
The former Matlama and LCS midfielder also had a coaching spell with Sky Battalion two seasons back and helped the team finish in the top eight in their first season in the Premier League. He however, left and joined A Division side, Manonyane, last season.
While Secker confirmed that he has been approached by his former club, he also said his personal terms are yet to be met. He said he is also out of contract in his former job at Manonyane where his contract expired last month.
“The club has approached me and I will gladly join them once my terms are met. My contract with Manonyane expired last month,” Secker said.
He said coaching Matlama would also give him a chance to grow as a coach.
“I have only coached in the premiership as an assistant at Lioli in 2011 so I am familiar with the environment managing the backroom staff of a big club. The difference is that this time I will be calling the shots.
“I know there will be challenges but the opportunity comes with a chance to grow if I take it,” Secker said.
Matlama communications and marketing manager Tankiso Moletsane said all they are waiting for is for Secker to put pen to paper.
“We are indeed in talks with him and the talks are at an advanced stage. What is left is for him to sign the contract,” Moletsane said.
Moletsane also indicated that Mosito Matela who coached the side last season has been moved to the technical director post.
“We are not parting ways with Matela. He is now the team’s technical director,” Moletsane said.
