OPERATIONS at the Sani Border Post in the Mokhotlong district are set to improve for the better, the Road Fund has said.
This following the recent testing, handing over and launching of a newly constructed Solar Power Plant.
The Sani Border Solar Power Plant was handed over to the Road Fund by the Contractor, following its construction, completion, and testing. Processes which confirmed its readiness to start supplying the Border Post with electrical power.
Speaking at the occasion, the Road Fund Chief Executive Officer, Nkekeletse Makara, said the electrical power to be generated by the Plant would be utilised by all Border Agencies to execute their day-to-day operations.
Mr Makara said the electrical power would facilitate automation of the Toll Gate Fees revenue collection processes, which has been completely manual.
“Our toll revenue collection system has been installed and is ready to go live with the availability of the electrical power. I hope other Border Agencies are ready too to automate their processes where applicable,” Mr Makara said.
In conclusion, Mr Makara said that availability of power at the Border Post, would improve tourism in Lesotho as the Border could be accessed round the clock by tourists, if need be.
The Sani Border Post has been operating without electrical power since inception hence the Solar Power Plant intended to improve operations for the realisation of better revenue.
It has cost the Road Fund around M2,3 million to erect the Solar Power Plant at the Sani Border Post.
