MASERU — Volleyball giants, Redskins, continued its dominance in the region when it won the Mangaung Open Tournament held Bloemfontein last Saturday.
The eight-time champions walked away with gold medals in the male and female categories at the Bloemfontein tournament.
Two players, Moholo Lekomola and Selloane Phosholi, were named the best attackers in the male and female categories.
The win was a timely boost for the Redskins team that is preparing to compete at the All African Club Championship in Morocco next month.
For winning the tournament, Redskins walked away with M2 000, T-shirts, sports bottles and two trophies.
The Redskins male team won the gold medal after beating Central University of Technology 2:1 in the finals.
Redskins stormed into the final after they dispatched 76 YEARS 2:1 in the semi-finals.
In the preliminary stage, Redskins were beaten 2:1 by CUT before beating Botshabelo and Nihe 2:1 and 2:0 respectively.
In the female category, Redskins beat Nihe 2:0 in the semi-finals before thrashing CUT 2:0.
Redskins coach Tsepo Raletoane told the Sunday Express that the victory was a good start for the local champions.
“It is a good start for the year ahead and a very good confidence booster,” Raletoane said.
Raletoane said they decided to take part in the tournament to give young players exposure.
