LINARE holding midfielder Tšeole Ranthimo has welcomed his first Likuena call-up.

The former Lioli, Rovers and Liphakoe midfielder is one of fresh faces in Thabo Senong’s new look Likuena squad. Senong announced the squad that is preparing for the COSAFA Cup.

The tournament will run from 7 to 18 July 2021 in Port Elizabeth.

Likuena are in Group A with hosts South Africa, as well as Botswana and eSwatini.

Ranthimo, who is part of the 36-man provisional squad which is starting its preparations tomorrow, said he must now impress and make it onto the final squad.

“I am happy because it is a dream come true; this is what I have been working hard for,” Ranthimo said.

“Just like any other player, I have always longed to don national colours. I know that a lot of work still needs to be done because this is just a provisional team but it makes me glad to see that the work that I have been putting in at club level is getting recognised and now I must continue working hard.”

Ranthimo has been an important member of Tebogo Moloi’s side which, before this weekend’s games, was sitting fourth in the league table after registering five wins in a row.

However, he is aware of the work that must still be done and he said he was up for the challenge.

“Yes, there will always be pressure because people’s expectations have been aroused by my call-up but I am up for that.

“It is not going to be easy for me to make the final cut because I will also be competing with some of the best players in the league, so I must double my efforts and I am up for the challenge.”

He also showered praises on his teammates and technical team for the support he has been getting.

“It is a collective effort by my teammates, our supporters and most importantly; the technical team as they have always been pushing us to work hard. We have a demanding coach and I am thankful for everything he has been doing to help me improve my game. I have become a better player working under him and I am grateful for that,” Ranthimo said.
