MASERU — The organising committee of the Miss Lesotho Companies does not have money to stage the pageant again.
The pageant was a fortnight ago called off midway because of electrical problems at Manthabiseng Convention Centre.
The organisers said they would reschedule the event.
But now they say they are too broke to do that.
Limakatso Makutle, one of the Miss Lesotho Companies organisers, said they had incurred huge losses when they cancelled the event.
Makutle said they can only reschedule the pageant if the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment — which owns Manthabiseng Convention Centre — covers all the costs.
“We ran a loss,” she said.
“We seriously don’t have money to run the pageant for the second time.”
Makutle said that they were forced to pay all the people who worked during the pageant regardless of the flop.
“We had to pay them because it was not their problem that electricity failed us,” she said.
Makutle said among other people they paid were a DJ (M2 500) and two comperes (M500 each).
They also footed expenses incurred by performers and contestants.
Makutle said they were seeking a meeting with the ministry over the expenses.
“We requested to have a meeting with the ministry’s principal secretary to ask her to cover the second round expenses,” she said.
