LESOTHO PostBank’s (LPB) mobile money platform, Khetsi, is targeting a staggering 100 000 users by the end of the year after receiving a positive response from the market.

Officially launched on 17 May 2019, Khetsi is LPB’s new offering that is aimed at advancing financial inclusion among the unbanked population.

LBP marketing officer Tlali Kele yesterday told the Sunday Express that Khetsi has received a positive response from the market and is now targeting 100 000 users by the end of the year.

He said this during yesterday’s Khetsi grand draw at Sefika Complex in Maseru yesterday.

Mr Kele said the platform has so far notched up 65 000 users registering for its services, while 150 agents have also been registered around the country to date.

“The performance has been impressive so far with 65 000 subscribers registered for Khetsi,” Mr Kele said.

“People have received Khetsi positively as they are using it for different services.  We are hoping to hit 100 000 registered subscribers by the end of the year.

He added that over 150 agents around the country have also been registered to date.

“Khetsi is easy to use hence beneficial to the elderly and some disadvantaged people in the remote areas of the country because it is simple to use. This is in line with the bank’s mandate to ensure financial inclusion to all citizens.”

LPB yesterday invited 35 finalists for the draw. Of the 35; 32 turned up for the draw to win various prizes totaling M50 000. The prizes included washing machines, television sets, refrigerators, microwaves, electric heaters, grocery hampers, LPB hampers and blankets.

Pulane Mohale, who won a washing machine, was over the moon for the “unexpected win” after joining the bank just two months ago.

“I am overjoyed. I normally use Khetsi for cardless services whenever I forget my bank card at home. It is also handy in my beauty salon business.”

Using Khetsi, one can use cardless services, send money, make utility payments, purchase airtime, pay bills and make merchant purchases. It also has a savings function which allows both individual and community savings.

Users can save daily, weekly or even monthly. Khetsi is currently available for cash-ins and cash-outs at all LPB branches and will soon be rolled out to different agents across the country. The wallet is available on both USSD (*120*222#) and on Google Playstore.
