POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Woman Police Constable, (WPC) who allegedly shot herself on Friday.

The deceased, who was pregnant at the time of her death, was admitted at Makoanyane Military Hospital in Maseru on 4 June.

Police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Clifford Molefe said the woman was admitted to the military hospital in anticipation of delivering.

“She was found lifeless in the hospital toilet between 4 and 5 am on Friday and we are investigating the circumstances of her death,” Senior Superintendent Molefe said.

He however, refused to comment on allegations that the WPC had committed suicide.

However, police sources said the woman’s death had left the military hospital’s medical staff shocked.

“The woman was heavily pregnant and was due to give birth any minute. Finding her body in a pool of blood in the toilet left the medical staff in shock.

“When the medical staff told all patients that it was time to bath on Friday morning, it is suspected that WPC took her own gun and she shot herself dead in the toilet,” the source said.

At the time of going to print, it was still unclear whether or not her baby had been saved.
