Poetry session on the cards

POET Thabo Marebole has partnered with Petsoa-Majoeng Arts & Entertainment for the hosting of the debut Mora-Mobu poetry session on Saturday at Maqalika Dam.

The session will host 15 poets, three vocalists and four painters to showcase their skills for that day.

Speaking to Express People last week, Marebole said although this would be the first session, the expectation is to host it annually to give artistes, especially poets, a chance to showcase their talent.

“The aim behind the session is to create a sacred space for arts and artistes and a platform where they can all come together to inspire and learn from one other,” Marebole said.

He said they target to become one of the biggest and most effective arts gathering in Southern Africa in the next four years and to bring back the reading, listening and writing culture within people.

“We want to turn this into something that people look forward to each year,” Marebole said.

He said among the artistes will be vocalists such as Joseph Hairy, Nel Rivers and Maw Lion-heart. Poets will include the well-known Mpho Sefali, Lerato Majara, Velocity, Lungile, Qenehelo Mahamo, Poetic Dust, Dolly, Ts’ele Foso, Bee-Sting, Answer, Bella, HomeWork and Afro-Poetry Movement.

“There will also be painters like Siya Mosotho II, Alvin Lesoli, Ts’ele Foso and Mpho Malefane so showcase their art and some who will be doing face painting,” he said.

Marebole said the session will also be musical performances to entertain the audience.

He further noted the event would be free for attendees a model which they intend to use to market the event.
