THE Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) has tentatively set 7 June 2019 as the date for the annual Econet Premier League awards, in Maseru.
The PLMC will be awarding players who performed exceptionally throughout the 2018/19 season.
The awards which will be up for grabs are players’ player of the season, goalkeeper of the season, young player of the season, top goal scorer and the coveted player of the season.
Matlama striker Motebang Sera is set to walk away with the top goal scorer gong after netting 18 goals.
PLMC spokesperson Moeketsi Ramakatsa told the Sunday Express on Friday that the list of nominees will be announced at a later stage. He said for now, they are still waiting for the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) technical director, Leslie Notši, who is out of the country with the national under-17 and under-20 sides who played in eSwatini at the weekend.
“The date proposed for the awards is the 7th of June but it is yet to be confirmed because there are other logistics that need to be considered first,” Ramakatsa said.
“The list of nominees will be announced at a later stage because the panel was only announced yesterday (Thursday), so we also have to wait for Ntate Notši, who is also part of the panel but is now out of the country.”
The top goal scorer will pocket M9000, the Player of the Season M10 000, the Players Player of the Season will get M7500 while the Goalkeeper of the Season will bag M7500. The Coach of the Season will get M7500, the Young Player of the Season will pocket M5000, while the Referee of the Season is set to get M5000 and lastly the Assistant Referee of the Season will get M3500.
Ramakatsa said among other factors to consider is that the senior national team will be participating in the ongoing COSAFA tournament in Durban South Africa.
COSAFA started yesterday and is expected to end on 8th June. Likuena will however, face Uganda next Saturday as it will be starting at the quarter finals.
“We were also looking at the national team schedules before we finalise the date of the awards,” Ramakatsa said.
