Pastor rapes, impregnates 16-year-old girl under his care

MASERU — A 30-year-old local pastor appeared in the Maseru Magistrate’s Court last week for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl under his care. Police spokesman Masupha Masupha told the Sunday Express the girl had sought refuge at the pastor’s house after fleeing her parents’ house when she was raped. “A 30-year-old man appeared before the magistrate’s court for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl. It was reported that the girl is six weeks pregnant and it is suspected that she was impregnated by the suspect,” Masupha said. The pastor was staying with the girl at his house when the alleged sexual assault took place. It was not clear why the girl had left her home to stay with the suspect.

In a separate incident, a 65-year-old man appeared in the Mohale’s Hoek Magistrate’s Court for allegedly sexually assaulting his 15-year-old granddaughter last Thursday. The court heard that the grandfather sneaked into his granddaughter’s blankets when she was sleeping and raped her. The case was referred to the High Court for trial. Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man from Koalabata was arrested last week for
allegedly defrauding First National Bank in Maputsoe of M600 000. The money was reported missing on November 24. The suspect, who was working as a customer services officer, was arrested on November 30. Police have recovered M45 000 from the suspect while M555 000 is still missing. The police said they are looking for the suspect’s friend who is accused of helping him defraud the bank. Investigations are continuing.
