MASERU — Newly appointed Likuena head coach Leslie Notši says he is humbled by the decision to appoint him national team coach.
The Lesotho Football Association (Lefa)
announced last Thursday that they were
appointing Notši as head coach.
“I am truly humbled by the decision to
appoint me new coach because it is every coach’s desire to lead his own country at the senior level,” Notši said on Friday.
The 47-year-old led Lesotho’s Under-20 side to the Caf Under-20 Youth Championship in South Africa in April.
Notši however said he did not see his
appointment coming.
“Personally I wanted this job but because
of the competition I did not see it coming,” he said.
Notši is however not new in the Likuena
coaching department after he worked for eight months as Zavisa Milosavljevic’s assistant.
Milosavljevic was fired in 2009 after a string of poor results.
Notsi was then appointed Makoanyane XI head coach.
During his two-year tenure as Makoanyane XI mentor, Notši led Lesotho to the Caf Under-20 Youth Championships in April.
Notši said his immediate assignment was to discuss with Lefa officials what they expected him to achieve with the team.
“My immediate goal right now is to get to know my employers’ expectations so I can start playing around with them to see how I can achieve them,” Notši said.
He is confident that he will be able to achieve the goals that the Lefa executive committee
will set for him just like he did with the Under-20.
“I am fully aware of this huge challenge ahead of us but I will work hard to at least meet some of them,” he said.
“With the same committee and Basotho’s
100 percent support, we can achieve more
as Likuena.”
