Motorists urged to be cautious

 

THE Department of Road Safety in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has urged motorists to exercise caution to avoid accidents on the roads that are often slippery during the winter season.

The department’s Chief Information Officer, Ntumeleng Nts’ekhe-Moloinyane recently warned in an interview that over-speeding often resulted in accidents especially on slippery roads, some of which were littered with potholes which were at times filled with water.

Ms Nts’ekhe-Molinyane also advised motorists to avoid mountainous areas during snowfalls.

She appealed to them to always switch on their vehicles’ headlights whenever it was misty so that they could be visible to other road users.

The period 2011 to 2020 has been declared by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly as a Decade of Action for Road Safety, due to the escalation of road accidents and the increasing number of vehicles on the roads worldwide.–Lena
