2648822THE Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) has warned of very cold weather conditions accompanied by heavy snowfall and rainfall in the country from today until Wednesday.

According to LMS Director, Mabafokeng Mahahabisa, the coldest conditions were expected today.

She said daytime maximum temperatures were forecast to drop to near freezing in most highland areas from tomorrow until Wednesday.

Snowfall was forecast from today at night, and expected to become heavy and widespread over high-lying areas from tomorrow until Wednesday.

“A mixture of both rain and snowfall can be anticipated over low-lying areas during the same period,” Ms Mahahabisa said.

“The nation is therefore advised to take precaution while planning their activities during this period and recommended to obtain regular updates from local media.”

Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Superintendent Clifford Molefe, also urged motorists to take precautions and avoid unnecessary trips, especially in the mountainous regions of the country as snowfall was anticipated.

He also appealed to the public to take precautions when using appliances such as electricity and gas heaters to avoid fire-related accidents. – Staff Writer/LeNA
