Lerato Matheka MASERU — Pioneer Shopping Mall was a hive of activity on Thursday as three retails shops opened their doors at the mall’s new wing. Mr Price, Truworths and Identity shops opened their doors at 9am with thousands of excited customers rushing to snatch bargains that were on offer. Pra Maharaj, regional manager for Truworths and Identity, said they were pleased with the market’s response.
“I am very happy with the response both Truworths and Identity have garnered but I guess Identity stole the show because it is new in the country as opposed to Truworths,” Maharaj said. He said they would be introducing new brands for men. “We are very positive about Lesotho and we are also opening at Maseru Mall. The locals have embraced us and the excitement around our new brands, Uzzi and Identity, has shown us that Basotho are enthusiastic about us.”
He said they have employed a total of 27 Basotho in the two stores. “We are hundred percent Basotho-staffed and with the other store opening at Maseru Mall more Basotho are going to be hired,” he said. Maharaj said they intended to bring variety to the two stores.
Motjopi Molise, the store manager at Mr Price, said the store is going to reduce pressure on their branch along Kingsway Street. “People might think the other Mr Price store is going to suffer but in reality this one is going to relieve the other,” he said.
’Malanga Tšita, one of the many shoppers who thronged the mall on Thursday, said she was excited about the new shops. “It is a very exciting feeling. I am also expecting variety in fashion items from all the three shops,” Tšita said. Lieketseng Nkune, another customer, said she would have wanted more variety in the shops. “The excitement is with Identity
because it is a new brand in the country and I enjoyed seeing new products. This is the beginning of Maseru’s development into a city so we have to take pride in the project,” she said.
More shops in the new wing of the mall are expected to open this week. They include Edgars and Clicks.
