Sky Cycling League is a series of cycling events held once monthly where cyclists compete in pump track, cross country and marathon.
Athletes are collecting points in the cross-country category and the winner will be announced in September.
The race organiser, Christian Schmidt, said this edition was one of the most successful ones ever since the inception of the series of races that started in last November.
“The fourth edition of Sky Cycling League took place on Saturday at Roma Trading Post with 72 riders across the three categories (Cross Country Mountain Bike, Marathon Mountain Bike & Pump Track) and this was our biggest league event to date,” Schmidt said.
“More than 100 spectators enjoyed the sunny day out at Roma Trading Post.
“It was a busy day from 8am until sunset with a total of around 200 people visiting the event and Roma Trading Post.”
Schmidt said one of the positives from last weekend’s race was that the pump track category was dominated by riders of the ages between nine to 18 years in both females’ and males’ categories.
“The Pump Track category is dominated by nine to 18-year old males and females. The average age of the top three pump track riders (after the fourth event) is only 12 years and that is something to celebrate considering that we are preparing for next month’s pump track qualifiers.
“From the pump track we may expect to see young riders emerging as very successful in cross-country in a few years to come.”
Schmidt said the marathon which was introduced last weekend was meant for fun for now but may in future be used for points’ collection.
“Marathon category is a fun category for now. The 25km route has only very little elevation and takes riders on a scenic route from Roma, via Mokema and Ha Maama back to Roma. It is suitable for beginners and so far, we have seen Basotho from Maseru as well as tourists enjoy this route.
“We use an app called STRAVA for timing and results. STRAVA is freely available for any mobile platform and one can compare results with those of other riders. We will expand the marathon category and offer corporate packages as well.”
Meanwhile, Tlotlisang Mothae is on number one in pump track with 196 points while Kefuoe Lerato and Ralikotsi Ralethoko are second and third with 185 and 180 points respectively. Which category is this?
