MASERU — Local hip-hop artist Paul Mokotjo says he will release his first album, Hi Stakes, this week.
Mokotjo, popularly known as Full Metal Jacket, said he grew up listening to hip-hop hence he was addicted to the genre.
“I used to listen to hip-hop music a lot and I started writing as soon as I was in my high school,” he said.
Mokotjo said he was motivated by the success of one album in which he was a producer.
He also said he had three songs on the Kingdom of Lesotho mix tape.
“People said they wanted a full album,” he said.
“I took their advice, and I think I will never regret it.”
Mokotjo said he was in the music industry to stay.
“I will keep on releasing albums,” he said.
“This is not the end.”
He said his music carries different messages.
Mokotjo said passing the same message would be monotonous.
“I do not like to pass one message,” he said.
“If you are an artist, you should learn to vary the messages.”
He said the song All My Life, one of the 15 tracks on the new album, was likely to be a hit because it is motivational.
“It tells people that nothing is impossible in the world,” Mokotjo said.
“I think this is a track that is very comprehensive.”
