FOUR local models, Mahooana Makape, Matili Taaso, Kananelo Letsie and Lehlohonolo Matela have been selected to represent Lesotho at the SUTA Seoul Global Fashion Week 2017 told be held in Seoul, South Korea from 8 to 12 May this year.
The four models beat 11 other contestants at the auditions which were held yesterday at Dona@Balos Restaurant in Maseru.
They will join models from other African countries on the runway in the Asian country to showcase different international designs.
Lesotho event coordinator, Thotoane Motlomelo told Xpress People on the sidelines of the event that, “it was not hard to select the best four as they were outstanding in all categories so we are confident that they will represent our country very well in South Korea”.
Motlomelo also revealed that the models had to foot their own transport bill and plans were underway to assist them through fund raising initiatives as well as seek sponsors.
She said most of the models lacked the necessary skills and confidence “but I told them not to despair but take losing as the motivation to work on bettering their skills”.
Motlomelo said she held the auditions on behalf of the Southern Africa representative, Culvin Mavunga, who is in charge of scouting for models in Southern Africa for the Asian fashion show. They started working together last year in June when Motlomelo participated in the Africa Top Model in Zimbabwe which was organized by Mavunga.
One of the winners, Letsie expressed gratitude for the opportunity she had been “dreaming of for a very long time”.
“Throughout the 10 years that I have been in the modelling industry I always hoped someone would recognise my talent and passion but that never happened until today.
“This is bigger than my actual dream for I never thought my first breakthrough will be this huge. I am honoured for the opportunity as I will be showcasing my modelling skills in front of many nations. They will also get to know of the talent that exists in Africa, especially my country Lesotho,” she said.
