Metropolitan gives Makoanyane boost

MASERU — Lesotho’s Under-20 national side received a timely boost on Friday when they received a kit worth M40 000 from local insurance giant Metropolitan Lesotho.

The national side will take the South African Under-20 side at Setsotso Stadium this afternoon with a healthy 2-0 lead from the first leg.

Head of retail at Metropolitan Bonang Sonopo said the donation was meant to boost morale and confidence within the national youth side.

He said Makoanyane IX needed to be dressed properly after they raised Lesotho’s flag high during their recent Caf Championship matches.

Lesotho crushed Mozambique 6-1 in April before edging South Africa 2-0 in Johannesburg two weeks ago.

Both matches were in the CAF Championship qualifiers.

“We are here following your current success and the honour you gave Lesotho when you defeated Mozambique,” Sonopo said.

“We were very happy and everyone else was happy to see Lesotho performing so well and we want you to dress nicely when you play South Africa on Sunday.”

He said the whole nation was solidly behind Makoanyane IX.

“We have faith that you will win this game especially because you are now playing at home with all Basotho behind you,” he said.

“It was an honor when you raised Lesotho’s flag high and we are here today to uplift the spirit of winning amongst you.”

Sonopo said Metropolitan Lesotho’s dream was to see Lesotho playing at the next World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

“We are investing in you because our dream is to see this team representing Lesotho at the next World Cup in 2014,” he said.

Metropolitan Lesotho has been sponsoring the national Under-20 side since 2004.
