Mehalalitoe to face Zim
MASERU — Lesotho women’s national team, Mehalalitoe, will play their counterparts from Zimbabwe in an international friendly match set for Setsoto Stadium on October 12.
Lesotho Football Association technical director, Seephephe Matete, told a media briefing on Thursday that Zimbabwe had written to them requesting a friendly match which they agreed to.
The association held an inter-district tournament yesterday at the Bambatha Sports Arena Grounds as part of preparations for the friendly match against Zimbabwe.
“This is where a selection of our women’s national team will start. The outstanding players have a chance to be part of the national team,” Matete said.
“The competition will help the association to assemble the best female team from the district sides”, he said.
The tournament was graced by teams from Maseru, Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek and Berea.
According to Matete, the platform gave the players a chance to impress the coaches and vie for a place in the Mehalalitoe team.
“Six teams that will top the tournament will book their spot in the super league that I believe will take place later this year.” said Matete.
“Our plan is to help the women’s league get strong and competitive,” he said.
Matete also told the press that Lefa will continue with their development programmes which have seen the association holding courses across the country.
He said the courses have been running as introductory courses where 30 people are trained for administration, coaching and refereeing.
