A 36-year-old man from Ha Khitione in Maseru is fighting for his life at Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital after he was allegedly shot outside a hotel in the Maseru city Centre yesterday morning.

The man had allegedly visited the area to seek the services of commercial sex workers who prowl the area at night looking for clients when he was shot.

Senior Superintendent Motlatsi Mapola of the Serious Crimes Unit confirmed the incident and told the Sunday Express: “A man thought to be 36 years old was shot in the chest while in the act (of having sex). Investigations are continuing and the details are still sketchy. Seven sex workers have already given statements, but no arrests have been made so far.”

The police had not found any bullets at the scene of the alleged crime, according to Sen Sup Mapola.

Police spokesperson Clifford Molefe also confirmed the incident yesterday

“A man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot around 2.30 this morning. The incident happened not far from the NSS offices. However, I can’t say much on the matter as that would jeopardise police investigations,” Sup Molefe said.
