MASERU — Makoanyane XI coach, Moses Maliehe, has announced a 20-man squad to represent the country at the upcoming regional Cosafa Cup to be held in Lesotho from December 3 to 14.
Maliehe told this paper that he has selected the possible strongest team as he hopes to guide the team to success on home soil.
“Like I have said before, the team will be under a lot of pressure playing at home and I have assembled the best possible squad,” said Maliehe.
“We have been preparing well over the past weeks and the players are in good shape.
Maliehe said his charges are motivated and want to win the cup in front of the home supporters.
“I think it has started to sink into their minds that a lot will be expected from them as the host team and I have seen a lot of commitment from them,” said Maliehe.
The youth team mentor said they have a number of friendly matches lined up as part of final touches to his preparations.
“We have lined up friendly matches against South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique before the tournament starts and I believe it will help us get ready for the regional showdown,” he said.
Tsebang Lebata, Mohau Khali and Montoeli Sonopo are among experienced players who have already played in the regional showpiece before.
Lesotho is in group A alongside tournament guests Kenya as well as Comoros Islands, and Mauritius.
Makoanyane XI failed to make it past the group stages in the last two editions of the tournament.Lesotho will play against Comoros in their first match of the tournament.
