MASERU — Makoanyane XI have received a major boost ahead of next month’s Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championship in Botswana.
Insurance giant Metropolitan Lesotho has sourced attire worth M62 000 for the national Under-20 side.
The kit will be handed over to the Lesotho Football Association on November 24.
Metropolitan Lesotho head of retail Bonang Sonopo on Friday confirmed the development.
He said the company wanted to see Makoanyane IX presentable when playing international matches.
“Yes, we’ve sponsored them for the Cosafa games and their preparations for Libya,” Sonopo said.
Makoanyane XI made the country proud last month when they qualified for the African Youth Championship set for Libya next March.
That feat has put pressure on Lesotho to do well at the regional tournament in Botswana next month.
The Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championship will run from December 3 to 17.
“They have done a good job this year and in the past,” Sonopo said.
“So when they go to the Cosafa games next month, they must be seen dressed properly and like real heroes.”
“The attire will also be used when preparing for the Libya games,” he added.
Metropolitan Lesotho has been sponsoring Makoanyane IX since 2004.
In June this year, the company gave Makoanyane IX attire worth M40 000.
“We will continue to sponsor them but we will do that depending on what they would have requested,” Sonopo said.
