Former Lioli and Premier League Public Relations Officer, Lebohang Maketa, has joined the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s sports department as a freelance football commentator.
Maketa — who is currently Public Relations Manager of South African Premier League side, Free State Stars — would do Sesotho commentary after signing a three-year contract with the broadcaster.

“I have been handed a three-year contract and will begin my journey with the SABC during the Carling Black Label Cup final between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs to be played on 26 July at FNB Stadium,” said the Hlotse-born Maketa.

Maketa, who has also worked for local radio station, MoAfrika FM, said being part of the SABC family was a dream come true.
“I’m a very happy man because I have always had a dream of working for such a big media company and I’m very grateful for being given this chance to showcase my talent as a commentator.”
Maketa believes his long association with football at various levels, would help him succeed in his new role at the SABC.

“We have been negotiating for a very long time as they had a vacancy for a Sesotho football-commentator and they even came to Lesotho to assess me do my sports programme on MoAfrika,” said Maketa
“I have never done something like this before, at such a big level, but it’s a new chapter for me and I’m looking forward to it.

“I have been in this game for a very long time, starting from my days working for Lioli. I have had two spells with Free State Stars, working in their public relations department and also for teams such as Mpumalanga Black Aces and African Warriors, also here in South Africa.

“This experience gives me confidence that I will excel in my new role at the SABC.”
