MASERU — The Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) will today hold a closed indaba to take stock of the organisation’s progress and activities.

The purpose of the meeting at Manthabiseng Convention Centre is to table the president, general secretary and the treasurer’s reports before members from 60 sports associations under it.

LNOC office manager Nkalimeng Makhube confirmed these developments with the Sunday Express on Friday.

“We are going to hold our annual general meeting at Convention Centre (Manthabiseng) on Sunday and it is expected to start at 8am,” Makhube said.

“It is however going to be a closed session and non-members including the media will not be allowed during the discussions,” she said.

This would be the first annual general meeting by LNOC after elections in 2009.

“This AGM was supposed to be held last year but we postponed it. It will be the first one since the committee was elected into office in 2009,” Makhube said.

“The president (Matlohang Moiloa-Ramoqõpõ), general secretary (Retselisitsoe Motšoeneg) and the treasurer (Morake Raeleka) will be reporting back to members and there will be discussions after that.”

About 70 people are expected to attend today’s indaba.

“There will be 60 members from sports associations plus LNOC’s 10 committee members,” Makhube said.

Meanwhile, Lesotho Athletics Amateur Association (LAAA) will celebrate World Athletics Day by holding All Track and Field Events at Setsoto Stadium on Saturday.

“We will be celebrating the World Athletics Day by holding athletics games during a celebration at Setsoto Stadium on May 7,” LAAA spokesperson Sejanamane Maphathe told Sunday Express.

He said they were also going to use the Saturday event to select Lesotho’s youth team that will represent the country at the Southern Youth Championships in Namibia later this month.

“We will also be selecting the 20-man youth team that will represent Lesotho in Namibia at the end of next month (May),” Maphathe said on Friday.

The association is expecting every district to send 10 players to compete for a place in the team.

There is only one district – Quthing –which is not registered with the LAAA.

Maphathe added: “There will be certificates, T-shirts and safety pins given to the winners.”
