HIP Hop movement, Liquid Gold, set the Khubetsoana-based entertainment hotspot 4fordy alight on Wednesday as they launched their debut mixtape The Coming.
Formed in 2013 to give its members a platform to showcase their talents in Lesotho and beyond, Liquid Gold consists of rappers, graphic designers, scriptwriters and poets.
The Coming, is a 12-track compilation of hit singles from the movement’s different members. It features such tracks as Cyphic Black’s Down For You, Severe Agony’s Sweet Dreams featuring Linkeng, Black Jewel by Age featuring Queen Mo and The Cypher featuring a number of members.
As highlighted in the title, the album aspires to be the next big thing to rock Lesotho’s music industry. The rap styles encompass elements of Jazz and Lounge music as well as poetry. It is certainly a marked shift from the usual fare of local rap and somewhat similar to the American Hip Hop of the nineties epitomised by the likes of Rapsody and the group Wu-Tang Clan.
While the originality of Liquid Gold’s technical skill and style have oftentimes come into question during live performances, the movement acquitted itself well during their performance as evidenced by the audience’s response.
The crowd, which mainly consisted of Hip Hop lovers, had initially trickled in at the beginning of the show but grew to pack the venue as the evening wore on.
The movement promised to hold regular shows at 4fordy on Wednesdays to familiarise their fans with their brand of music and keep them updated on future projects.
