MASERU — Lioli football club will today hold a tournament in Berea that is aimed at unearthing new talent while celebrating the king’s birthday.
The colourful Teyateyaneng side, who finished a disappointing eighth on the Vodacom Premier League log last season, said the tournament was part of their efforts to improve their fortunes next season.
Lioli public relations officer, Moeketsi Pitso, told the Sunday Express the tournament will seek to honour King Letsie III while helping the club unearth new talent.
King Letsie III celebrates his birthday in TY on July 17.
“The purpose is to scout new talent as well as to celebrate the king’s birthday,” Pitso said.
“The tournament is going on as planned and there are four zonal teams which are going to compete.”
The four competing teams — Majara, Sefikeng, Central Zone and Matšekha — are made up of players from 62 lower division teams in the district.
Pitso warned that other premier league teams will not be allowed to take part in the tournament as it was meant to scout talent for the club.
“Only A Division teams and players are allowed to compete in this tournament,” he said.
“This is because the purpose is for Lioli to scout raw talent and nurture it, hence it’s only for meant for Lioli and its supporters.”
