Lioli run amok

…as Matlama survive Sundawana scare

Striker Junior Maba was on target twice, with Tšepo Lekhooana, Rasetabele Kalotsane and Montoeli Sonopo adding solo goals apiece as Lioli hammered Qoaling Highlanders 5-0 in a Vodacom Premier League match played at LCS Ground yesterday.

Maba opened the floodgates with a spectacular bicycle-kick in the 23rd minute, and grabbed his second in the 57th minute. Lekhoaoana added the third goal five minutes later, while Sonopo hammered home the fourth in the 78th minute before second-half substitute Kalotsane completed the rout against run of play.

In another premiership match played at LCS Ground yesterday, Matlama beat Sundawana 1-0, courtesy of a 50th minute strike by midfielder Mabuti Potloane.

The high-tempo match could have gone either way, but Potloane capitalised on poor communication between defender Lebohang Mabaso and goalkeeper Lerata Tsalong to score the only goal of the tie.

Matlama winger Jane Thabantšo could have put his side ahead 15 minutes into the match but his well-placed shot just outside the box narrowly missed the target.

Sundawana were far from outclassed in yesterday’s match, and matched their more illustrious opponents pound-for-pound, only to be let down by poor finishing.

Sundawana were particularly outstanding in the middle of the park, with Tumelo Khutlang and Emmanuel Amankwah giving their Matlama counterparts a torrid time.

In yet another premier league match played yesterday, LMPS, who are 13th on the 14-team premier league table, beat third-placed LDF 1-0 at PTC Ground.

Lioli’s win, meanwhile, saw the Teyateyaneng-based outfit stretch their lead at the summit of the table to eight points over second-placed Bantu, who face Nyenye Rovers in Mafeteng this afternoon.
