Mikia Kalati MASERU — Linare held LDF to a goal-less draw in an action packed Vodacom premier league tie at Ratjomose Barracks yesterday. Veteran midfielder, Molefe Lekoekoe, was the main culprit for LDF as he squandered two good chances to win the tie for the home team. He inexplicably failed to punish the erratic Linare defence in the dying minutes of the game to secure a win for his team which still harbours dreams of lifting the 2012/13 league title.
The lanky former Likuena midfielder saw his first effort going narrowly wide in the 85th minute as the home team searched for the winning goal. Lekoekoe had another chance two minutes later, but this time his effort went over the crossbar.
Linare also had good chances to win the match, but lack of experience seemed to be the major problem for a team in the rebuilding process after more than two decades of trophy-less seasons. Their captain, Mabuti Potloane, came alive in the second half of the match but his outstanding performance could not help his team get the three points at the end of the match.
Linare coach, Thulo Leboela, told the Sunday Express during the post-match interview that a point was not a bad result
for his team. “We came here to win the match, but a point is not bad playing away from home especially when LDF were our opponents,” Leboela said. The former Likuena legend said consistency has been a challenge for his team and believes a point could be good enough to see them securing a healthy finish at the end of the season.
“We just want to keep improving to end the season in a respectable position,” he said. LDF mentor, Motheo Mohapi, praised his side for their hard work. “We were very unlucky to have not secured a win today and a draw is not a bad result for us,” he said. Mahapi said his side that has gone for over five seasons without a league trophy will keep working hard.
“The race for the league title is still wide open and it is not yet time for us to throw in the towel as far as the league title is concerned,” said Mohapi.
“We will keep fighting because anything can still happen in the remaining matches.” This was the second successive goalless draw for LDF as they were also held by to a draw in a league match against LCS last Saturday.
