LIKUENA are back in training after the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament in Durban last month.
The team started its training sessions this week.
Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) media officer, Mikia Kalati, said the team was assembling on selected days weekly.
“The team will meet twice or thrice weekly to train,” Kalati said.
“The coach has a good working relationship with the clubs’ coaches, and they always engage regarding the availability of the players for national team duties.”
Likuena’s next official match was supposed to be an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying tie against Zambia next month. However, all the matches which were scheduled for September were moved to March next year to allow teams to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar in November 2022.
Kalati said coach, Veselin Jelusic, is also planning friendlies for the side during the September and November FIFA dates.
“It is true that our match that was set for next month has been moved to next year, but there are still FIFA dates which the coach is planning to utilise for friendlies as part of preparations for the AFCON qualifiers next year,” he said.
Jeluši? has called up some under-20 players to the provisional squad. These include Tumeliso Ratšiu from Kick4life and Molefi Kulehile from B Division side, AC TIP.
Motlatsi Sebapala and Tlotliso Mapola, who were invited for previous Likuena training programmes, are also part of the squad.
The Serbian gaffer has also invited the Swallows duo of Tanki Tsibela and Motšoane Lebaka alongside Kick4Life’s Moalosi Lebeko.
All these players are still part of the Makoanyane XI squad which is fine tuning its preparations for the 2022 edition of the COSAFA Under-20 Championship to be held in eSwatini in October.
