Likhopo fined M20 000 for misconduct

MASERU — Premier league side Likhopo FC were on Thursday slapped with a M20 000 fine for misconduct during last November’s Vodacom Soccer Spectacular finals.

The club was given seven days to pay the fine or appeal the judgment.

The judgment came after a Likhopo supporter, David Seutloali, publicly called for the resignation of the Vodacom tournament organisers accusing them of running a shoddy tournament.

This did not go down well with the Lesotho Football Association (Lefa) bosses who called for the disciplinary hearing.

Likhopo however deny that Seutloali was one of their own.

Lefa facilities and administration manager, Mokhosi Mohapi, confirmed the verdict on Friday.

“Likhopo have been fined M20 000 for its supporter’s misconduct during the Soccer Spectacular last year,” he said.

“The judgment was passed last night (Thursday),” Mohapi said.

The Lefa disciplinary committee has also banned Seutloali from attending any Vodacom Premier League games for a year.

Mohapi said Likhopo have a right to appeal against the judgment.

“We try by all means to practise democracy and everyone who feels aggrieved can appeal.

“The same is true for Likhopo if they feel that the judgment is unfair,” he said.

Likhopo team manager, Qamako Mahao, said they were still to discuss this matter as management.

“We have not yet sat down as management to discuss the matter but we are aware that we’ve been fined M20 000,” he said.

“But I want to believe that we are going to appeal the judgment because it is unjust.”

Mahao said this was “a political case” because the association was linking Seutloali with the club “when there is nothing legal binding us with that person”.

He said the comments made by Seutloali during the finals had not benefited Likhopo and did not warrant the M20 000 fine.

Likhopo won M360 000 when it beat Matlama 1-0 in the Vodacom Soccer Spectacular finals last year.
