Likhopo face Bantu test

Likhopo face Bantu today at LCS Ground hoping to get back their league title challenge back on track.

The two teams have met seven times in league matches since the 2012/13 season, with Likhopo winning three of the ties and Bantu only emerging victorious once, while the other three games have ended in a draw.

Likhopo’s last win was on 7 February against Linare at LCS Ground, and were subsequently  held to a goalless draw by Mphatlatsane a fort night ago and one-all stalemate by Matlama last weekend. Last weekend’s draw left Likhopo in fourth position and nine points adrift of leaders Lioli, and they cannot afford to lose any more games if they are to remain in the league race with nine matches to go before the season comes to an end.

On the other end, Bantu also come into the match desperate for points. The Mafeteng-based giants have won two and drawn four of their games since the second round of the season started in January.

Likhopo coach, Shalane Lehohla, told the Sunday Express: “It is not going to be easy for us. We know what history says about matches between us but that will not count when we meet on Sunday. We just need to be thoroughly prepared for the match.”

The former Likhopo and LCS midfielder admitted the Red Army are in desperate need of the three points on offer in today’s match.

“We have been struggling to score goals of late, and we have trying our best to address the situation. So hopefully, the players will fire come Sunday’s match,” said Lehohla.

On his part, Bantu coach Bafokeng Mohapi said they were looking forward to yet another tough match against Likhopo.

“We will be playing a big side in Likhopo and obviously it is going to be a tough match for us. However, our preparations went on very well and I believe we will get the result we need,” Mohapi said.

Mohapi further said they were expecting a very offensive and open game from Likhopo.

“If you check the history between us, you will notice Likhopo have been giving us problems but that will not be the case on Sunday. We are expecting a very offensive and open game from them and we are coming prepared. This is a very critical time of the season when every team is out to get maximum points. The league title is still open and no team can afford to drop points now, which is why we are going all out for a win on Sunday,” said Mohapi.

In other league matches set for today, Rovers host LMPS in Roma, LCS travel to Butha-Buthe to face Likila United, while Liphakoe will be at home against Sundawana.
