LESOTHO Netball Association (LNA) secretary general, Abiel Lekulo, has resigned from his position citing personal reasons.
Lekulo resigned on Friday saying tomorrow would be his last day in the office.
Lekulo was in his ninth month in office after his April 2021 election during the association’s general elections.
“I regret to inform you that I am resigning from my position as secretary general for LNA for personal reasons,” Lekulo said in his letter to LNA president ‘Mamotšabi Lekhabunyane.
“I know this is unexpected but I am happy to assist you in the replacement process to help alleviate the transition.
“I do not intend to inconvenience you with this news, and I hope you will accept my sincere apologies in making 10 January my final day working for the association.”
Lekulo also confirmed his resignation to the Sunday Express this weekend.
“It was a hard decision to make. The reason is that my workload has increased and I can no longer balance my work as a lecturer at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) with the LNA task. I therefore felt that it was the best for me to leave the position to someone who could commit more time to the association,” he said.
For her part, Lekhabunyane said they would now have to appoint someone else to fill in the void.
She said Lekulo’s departure was a huge loss for the association.
“As per our constitution, we will have to appoint someone from the executive committee to fill the position. It is disappointing to lose someone of his strength. However, since he has cited personal reasons for his resignation, we have to accept,” Lekhabunyane said.
