THE 2025 Civil-Military Physical Activities Challenge has lived up to its billing as hundreds of participants took to the streets on Friday for a spirited road march from Ratjomose Headquarters to Makoanyane Barracks.
The event brought together members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), Boot Camp participants, and the business community in a vibrant display of unity, fitness, and teamwork.
Now in its third year, the initiative continues to grow in popularity, fostering cooperation between the military and the corporate world while promoting physical and mental wellbeing.
Addressing participants at the launch, LDF Commander, Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela, expressed gratitude to all companies, organisations, and public service entities that joined the initiative.
“The success of today’s event is yours. It is through your participation that the LDF has grown this far,” Lt-Gen Letsoela said.
He further emphasized that the LDF strives for peace, stability and effective public service delivery — values that form the foundation of the Force’s growth.
“The walk itself is a signal of peace and unity. The main idea behind today’s event is to strengthen cooperation and collaboration, which have been the hallmark of this year’s success. I wish you all the best in today’s challenges,” he said, officially declaring the event open.
This year’s challenge attracted 49 participating companies — the highest turnout since the initiative began. SOS Clinic clinched the first-place trophy after completing the obstacle and cognitive course in 10 minutes and 22 seconds, followed closely by Econet Telecom Lesotho in 10 minutes and 35 seconds, while Moonlight Enterprise secured third place in 10 minutes and 54 seconds.
Other events included push-ups for men and squats for women, testing both endurance and strength.
LDF’s Lance Corporal Thema Hlabisi described the event as a powerful youth development and team-building platform.
“This initiative has grown tremendously since it began. It promotes teamwork, unity and physical discipline among all participants,” L/Corp Hlabisi said.
Each team comprised 15 members — six company representatives, five LDF members, and four Boot Campers — showcasing a perfect blend of military and civilian partnership.
With enthusiasm, sweat, and camaraderie in abundance, this year’s Civil-Military Challenge once again underscored the shared goal of peace, unity, and fitness that binds the nation together.
Among the enthusiastic participants was Vodacom Lesotho, represented by External Affairs officer, Katleho Pefole, who noted that the company has been part of the challenge since its inception three years ago.
“We participate to strengthen our relationships with the LDF, other companies, and the community. Our Health and Safety Department leads the initiative, ensuring mental and physical fitness,” Mr Pefole said.
He also said the event not only fosters corporate relationships but also contributes to employees’ wellbeing.
“The obstacles are demanding, but they encourage regular exercise and teamwork. October is Vodacom’s wellness month, so this event aligns perfectly with that. We are truly grateful to be part of it.”
Similarly, the Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) Public Relations Manager, Tšepang Mncina, highlighted the importance of such activities in promoting both physical and mental health among employees.
“These exercises give our staff a chance to relax, socialise, and network beyond their daily work routines. RSL values partnerships and unity, and this initiative brings corporates together while allowing us to inform people about who we are and what we do,” Ms Mncina said.
She added that collaborations forged through such events enhance RSL’s outreach efforts, helping the institution improve tax awareness and collection across the country.
