MASERU — Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) yesterday maintained their position at the top of the Vodacom Premier League after beating Lioli 1-0 at Ratjomose.
They are now on 21 points.
LDF’s goal came through Lengana Nkhethoa’s free kick in the 78th minute after a mix up in the visitors’ penalty area.
Sohle-Sohle are the only premier league side which has not lost any game since the beginning of the league last September.
They are four points ahead of second placed Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) who have 17 points.
LDF who have played nine games, winning six and drawing three, say they are determined to end the first round of the league on top.
Yesterday the soldiers were the more organised side as they began the game on a high note.
LDF took advantage of Lioli’s disorganisation and were the more attacking team throughout the first 45 minutes of the match.
But they had to wait until the third minute of the second half to make their first shot at goal.
“Our plans were to win this game and we are happy to have done exactly what we planned to do,” LDF caretaker coach, Malefatsane Pheko told the Sunday Express.
“We are also happy with this win because it has opened a gap between us and LCS,” he said.
Pheko was however not happy with his team’s failure to convert all their scoring chances into goals.
“Now we need to go back to the drawing board. We seriously need to work on converting our many scoring opportunities into goals,” Pheko said.
Meanwhile, Lioli coach, Katiso Mojakhomo said that his side played yesterday’s game without three of its key players who are currently in Sao Tomé with Likuena.
Lioli’s key players in the senior national team are defender Thabo Masualle, midfielder Motlalepula Mofolo and goalkeeper Mohau Koenane.
“The main purpose of this match was to give our players a regular game because we’ve not been playing because of national assignments,” Mojakhomo said.
“It was a lesson for us and we are now going back to the drawing board,” he said.
