MATSIENG — LDF, last year‘s losing finalists, secured a semi-final berth in this year’s Vodacom Soccer Spectacular with a 4-0 win over a gallant but clearly inexperienced Manamela side at Matsieng yesterday.
After holding and frustrating LDF in the first leg in Butha-Buthe three weeks ago — eventually losing to an 87th minute strike — the first division side had hope going into this match.
Their coach, Thabiso Masiu, had even claimed his charges would beat LDF 2-0.
But within six minutes of the second leg those hopes were dented, Sohle-Sohle striker Mojela Letsie delivering a sucker punch from which Manamela never recovered.
Seven minutes later, it was 2-0 as Letsie, who was named man of the match, grabbed his second of the day.
Manamela — on a cloudy afternoon in Matsieng’s picturesque settings — did try hard to manufacture a way back in the tie, even striking the post in the 43rd minute.
However, that was as good as it got as LDF tightened the screws and dominated possession in the second stanza that was basically a half of men against boys.
LDF right back Janfeke Molibeli was a constant threat down the touchline, bombing forward at every opportunity.
Although LDF missed opportunities to score, they showed they will be a force to be reckoned with as this tournament gets serious.
The final nail in Manamela’s coffin was hammered in by substitute Tsepo Keketsi late in the second half to make the final score 4-0.
At least Manamela go home with M60 000.
Meanwhile, Lioli will also go home with the same amount after their 1-1 draw with Likhopo in the day’s second match.
Likhopo won 3-2 on aggregate and live to fight another day.
