MASERU — At least 40 clubs from the southern Africa region will take part in the Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) Metropolitan Netball Inter-club tournament later this month.
The tournament, which is now in its fourth year, will see clubs from South Africa, Botswana and Lesotho taking part.
LCS public relations officer, Bataung Morakabi, told the Sunday Express the tournament will be held from March 23-26.
Morakabi said LCS will be hosting the event in partnership with Metropolitan Lesotho.
“We will be hosting the tournament in partnership with Metropolitan from March 23-26 at Central Prisons,” he said on Wednesday.
He said they were happy that the tournament has been growing every year.
“We have in the past attracted many teams from South Africa and Botswana and we are glad it’s growing,” Morakabi said.
So far 40 teams have already registered for this year’s tournament.
“We are expecting more than 40 teams to compete in this tournament,” he said.
The reigning champions in the male and female categories, both from South Africa, would be coming to defend their titles.
“Black Diamond and 10111, both from South Africa, will be defending their titles in the female and male categories respectively,” Morakabi said.
He said he was in no position to disclose the amount of sponsorship because it is not yet finalised.
“It (sponsorship) is yet to be confirmed and you will know as soon as possible.”
The competition is divided into four categories — senior (male and female), youths and veterans.
“Prizes for the senior category are M3 000, M2 000 and M1 000 together with trophies and medals for first, second and third places respectively.
“Youths will get M2 000, M1 000 and M500 for first, second and third positions respectively. Veterans will only receive trophies and medals,” Morakabi said.
