LCS to begin title defence at Joy

Mikia Kalati MASERU — Premier league champions Lesotho Correctional Service will begin their title defence against Joy FC when the league roars into life on September 8. The mouth-watering fixture was confirmed to the Sunday Express by the new premier league vice-secretary, Lehlohonolo Matlosa on Friday. “The league season was initially scheduled to start on August 25, but due to the slow process of the clubs in complying with the club licensing system, we have moved the kick-off date to September 8,” Matlosa said. Premier league rookies, Qoaling Highlanders, will face a baptism of fire in their first week of premier league football when they host Matlama in Qoaling. This will be the first time that the Wright Mofoka-coached side will make an appearance in top flight football after almost a 30-year absence. “We welcome the challenge with both hands and I believe my players are excited by this task as well,” Mofoka said.
“I know that we will go into this match as underdogs based on the fact that we are newcomers in the league, but our opponents will have to be very careful because they will be shocked in the field of play,” he said. Mofoka continued: “We have managed to sign a number of good experienced players to reinforce our side ahead of the demanding season in the premier league and I’m confident they will help us be competitive.” He said they will only be in a position to announce the names once they have completed registering them with the football authorities. Meanwhile, LCS coach, Mosholu “Shoes” Mokhothu, told this paper that they will go all out to defend their title this season. “It’s going to be a tough challenge, but I believe we have a squad capable of winning the championship for the third successive year,” Mokhothu said. Masheshena, as the team is affectionately known, have not added any names to their playing squad.
The correctional services outfit have made a request about taking on Bantu striker Lekhanya Lekhanya, in a bid to sign the player.
