LCS, Lioli clash
ECONET Soccer Spectacular (ESS) champions Lioli will be hoping to continue on their winning form when they face LCS in their league season opener at Setsoto Stadium this afternoon.
Tse Nala will be hoping for a solid start that can bolster their case in attempting to win the league championship after a trophy less 2018/19 season.
This will be new coach Thabile Secker’s first league match and following his charges’ good performance to clinch the Econet Soccer Spectacular a fortnight ago, he will hope to continue winning.
Secker told the Sunday Express that they had good preseason preparations and his charges were ready to do battle.
“We had good preparations that came with a preseason trophy, so I think the boys are ready for the task on Sunday (tomorrow),” Secker said.
“It is not going to be an easy match for us because LCS are a good team with seasoned players, so beating them will not be easy. However, this is one of those important matches which can make or break your season, so we need to win.”
He said winning against LCS would boost his players’ confidence.
“A win will be a motivation for us and also our supporters will be happy considering their high hopes.”
Secker, who played for LCS during his hey days, said Lioli will be without the services of Teboho Ntlama and Batlang Mokhele who are nursing injuries while Tsietsi Motšeare is out due to family commitments.
LCS on the other hand will be hoping to make a better start as they also are aiming for the league title.
Masheshena coach Mpitsa Marai said they also had a good pre-season and his charges are ready for the tie since they know what to expect from Lioli.
“Our preparations for the new season have been good. However, we are playing one of the best league sides.
“But the boys are ready for the job and we know what Lioli is capable of, so we won’t undermine them. We have been watching them lately to understand how they play, so I think we are ready for the tie,” Marai said.
In the past seasons, LCS has enjoyed good starts but always choked along the way but Marai says they are working to change that.
“This is our opening fixture and it is important for us to win it as it will help boost our players’ confidence especially because we are playing a big side. I am aware that we have been having challenges in past seasons but it is just that sometimes there are some issues that are beyond our control as a technical team. Sometimes our team is affected by injuries and lack of depth but we are trying to work against that this season and hopefully things will get better,” he said.
