PLANS are on track for the resumption of Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA) league play-offs, spokesperson Hopolang Hoala has said.

The only hurdle is the clearance from the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) Covid-19 task team to resume the play-offs.

Hoala told the Sunday Express this weekend that they have written to the task team, which represents sports federations in the National Covid-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) proposing that the matches resume this weekend. However, they are yet to receive a response.

The play-offs were suspended last December just before the Christmas holidays.

KTA ALL-Stars will play Tornado 98ers in a best of three series. The winner will face Lerotholi Polytechnic in the final. Lerotholi Polytechnic got a free pass after Shooting Rifles was disqualified after forfeiting one game in the semi-finals.

“We have written to the task team and the LSRC and we are just waiting for the greenlight to resume the play-offs.” Hoala said.

“However, everything is now is on track and teams have been alerted to start their preparations. The intention was to start this weekend but unfortunately, that failed. We can’t confirm the dates but once we get the greenlight the games will start.”

After the December holidays, the play-offs were meant to resume in January 2021. However, that failed after Shooting Rifles  requested that their match against Lerotholi Polytechnic be postponed.

This because one of the Shooting Rifles players was in quarantine having been exposed to a person who had tested positive. Shooting Riffles was forced to forfeit the match in accordance with the tournament regulations.

“Covid-19 has made life difficult for everyone, so we are trying to adjust to the situation. The play-offs were supposed to have been completed last December,” Hoala said.

LP will also play the finals in the female category against Bokamoso.
