OLD school music lovers are in for a treat on Saturday as events outfit, LESTOKU, hosts the third edition of its annual Waar Was Jy show at Lehakoe Club in Maseru.

LESTOKU is a joint venture between businessman John Leuta, radio presenter Counter Force and promoter Kuna Sounds.

The Waar Was Jy show – which means ‘Where were you’ in Afrikaans – is set to feature South African classic crooners Steve Kekana, CBJ, Condry Ziqubu, OMM Alec Khaoli and William Mthetwa.

According to Leuta, they found a niche of catering for old school music lovers after realising most events only featured the trending artists.

“As a team of experienced people, we saw a loophole in the type of events that are held in the country,” Leuta told Xpress People this past week.

“Almost every event in the country, from small shows to massive festivals, caters for the youth since the line-ups always consist of artists whose music is getting the most airplay.

“As a result, old school music lovers have been side-lined by promoters, and that is where we come in.”

He said the artists that perform at the annual show were chosen by public demand.

“Counter Force has a show on PC FM where he plays classic Afro jams and the programme has a high listenership. Whenever we are about to hold another show, he asks the listeners which artists they want to perform and then they vote for their favourites,” said Leuta.

“We don’t feature more than five artists at the show because we want to give them enough time to entertain the crowd.”

He also said local artists could also perform at the show as long as they were requested by revellers.
