MASERU — Karabelo Mokoallo, after spending a month in glitz and glamour in China, is back to her quiet and lacklustre lifestyle in Maseru.
But the 23-year-old beauty will always cherish her experience of taking part in the Miss World pageant in China, she told Xpress People this week.
“The trip to China was phenomenal,” Karabelo said on Wednesday, two days after she flew back from China.
United States teenager Alexandria Mills was crowned Miss World in the southern Chinese town of Sanya last Saturday.
Karabelo said even though she didn’t make it among the top 25 finalists she felt like a winner simply because she had been part of the world’s most prestigious pageant.
The former Miss Vodacom PC FM said making the top 10 of the Beauty with a Purpose contest, which was part of the Miss World pageant, made her experience sweeter.
“Being part of the biggest pageant in the world is a humbling experience which has changed my life,” Karabelo said.
“I may not have won but representing my country meant a lot to me.
“I am also proud that Lesotho has been recognised in the life of the pageant and having managed to make it to the top 10 in the Beauty with a Purpose competition was an achievement.”
Karabelo said she had tried her best to impress at the pageant.
“Every moment of the pageant was fun,” she said.
“We worked hard so that we could make it to the top but there was really nothing to fear.”
Karabelo, who hails from the dusty district of Butha-Buthe, said she had felt like she was in a different world during the month-long pageant.
“Shanghai is the most stunning city in China,” she said.
“The city lights were amazing. They changed colour and shape in an exciting manner . . . the view was very eye-catching.”
