MASERU — 20-year-old herdboy was beaten to death by a neighbour he had recently attended initiation school with at Lekokoaneng in Berealast on Friday last week.
The herdboy, who was beaten with a stick, sustained serious head injuries.
He was declared dead upon arrival at the Berea Hospital on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Inspector Thato Ramarikhoane on Wednesday said police were still looking for the 23-year-old suspect after he managed to out-run some villagers who wanted to take him to the police.
“Our investigations have shown that the dispute started at a local initiation school where the two had attended a few months ago.
Relatives had not been able to establish the nature of the misunderstanding because initiates do not reveal what happens during initiation,” he said.
Ramarikhoane said on Monday morning, the herdboy had taken his employer’s livestock to graze in an area a few kilometres away.
“The suspect followed the now deceased and we understand an argument ensued, which led to the murder.”
