Police are hunting for two suspected armed robbers who allegedly killed two men and injured a three-year-old child in Rothe, Maseru on Friday night.
Police spokesperson Clifford Molefe said the suspects arrived at one of the shops in Rothe and demanded money from the owner.
“Investigations have so far reveal that the two suspects arrived at the shop at around 9:30pm and demanded that the 75-year-old owner, who was counting money at the time, should hand over the cash,” Senior Inspector Molefe said.
“However, the owner refused and was shot dead by the robbers. A three-year-old child was also injured and rushed to Tšepong (Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital),” he said.
According to Snr Insp Molefe, the suspects did not steal anything from the shop, but proceeded to another shop in the same area where they found a 34-year-old owner in the company of a 26-year-old customer. The two men were drinking beer, Snr Insp Molefe said.
“Around 10:15pm, the two suspects arrived at another shop and demanded money. And when the owner refused, the two allegedly shot the 26-year-old and fled. The customer died immediately,” Snr Insp Molefe said.
According to Snr Insp Molefe, it was still not clear why the robbers shot the customer.
“Investigations into the case are at an advanced stage but no one has been arrested,” he said.
