LESOTHO’S representative at the recently-held Miss Freedom of the World, Mosele Morena, says the pageant was an “experience of a lifetime” which equipped her with invaluable experiences.
Morena notched the Miss Freedom of Africa sub-title at the glitzy pageant held in Prizren, Kosovo from 17 to 30 August 2015. She competed against 21 contestants from around the world, with the Miss Freedom of the World 2015 title going to Albania and the runner-ups from Sweden, Philippines, Taiwan and Australia respectively.
The Miss Freedom of Africa accolade was awarded to a contestant from Africa, with Morena triumphing at the expense of five other contenders from the continent.
In an interview with Xpress People on Friday, the 22-year-old stunner said the pageant was a learning curve as she interacted with people from diverse backgrounds.
“The competition was hard because language was a barrier with most of our sponsors and coaches unable to speak or understand English,” Morena said.
“But it was also very exciting because I was able to learn about different cultures, which is an important facet of becoming an international beauty queen.
“I managed to make friends with contestants from such countries as Taiwan and Norway, and learnt from each other the best ways to market our countries at the pageant.”
The Sehlabeng, Thuathe-based beauty said she went to great lengths to showcase what Lesotho has to offer.
“I spent most of my time explaining to people about Lesotho since they had never heard of us and even found it hard to pronounce the name,” said Morena.
“International pageants help us market our country, and the people who were there now know about my country and its heritage. Most of the people I talked to were very eager to visit.”
Morena said she saw Miss Freedom of the World as a stepping stone, adding that she was looking forward to representing Lesotho at other international pageants such as the Miss Global International.
She is a second year student at the National Health Training Centre studying nursing and the current Miss Lesotho second princess.
