MASERU — Lesotho’s top tennis prospects are in Zimbabwe taking part in a qualifying tournament for the 2010 African Junior Championships.
Two boys, Paseka Motamaile and Lebelo Mosehli, and two girls — Mpho Kotsie and Ntsoaki Mokhele — left the country on Thursday for the tournament which gets underway in Harare today.
For them to qualify for the continental championships — a two-week event organised by the International Tennis Federation, in conjunction with the Confederation of African Tennis scheduled for April at a venue still to be decided — the four will have to reach the semi-final stage in Harare.
National tennis coach Sekhobe Moshoeshoe was hopeful they would perform well.
“The players were able to qualify for the Zimbabwe tournament as the best in the country. There are a certain number of spots allocated for the region and it is my hope that they will perform well,” Moshoeshoe said.
Should Mosehle qualify, it will be his second successive year at the African Junior Championships after representing Lesotho in Morocco, alongside Bishop Mosebi.
Last year, a total 332 players from 33 different African countries participated in both the main event and three zonal championships.
