MASERU — First National Bank (FNB) on Wednesday launched a new cellphone banking service in partnership with communications giants Vodacom Lesotho.
The service allows Vodacom subscribers to perform banking transactions on their mobile phones without visiting banking halls.
The new service will be accessed in all areas where the Vodacom network is available, according to FNB marketing manager, Peete Marakabei.
The service is divided into two categories, full cellphone banking and cellphone banking lite.
Cellphone banking enables customers to check balances on their FNB accounts on their mobile phones as well as purchase pre-paid phone airtime.
Customers can also get bank mini-statements through the service.
“The new service is for anyone using the Vodacom Lesotho network within Lesotho,” Marakabei said.
“It offers customers the freedom to bank safely and simply whenever and wherever they are by simply dialling the registration number on their cellphone.”
He added: “With the cellphone banking one can have access to 24-hour banking convenience.”
Marakabei said the new services have security features to protect customers against fraud.
“We offer a full money-back guarantee if fraud occurs, provided the customer has taken reasonable steps to protect their access details and their in-contact service is active.”
Marakabei said there are plans to rope in other mobile networks to offer cellphone banking services to their subscribers.
