TELECOMMUNICATIONS powerhouse, Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL), has strengthened its service delivery in Mafeteng by unveiling a new state-of-the-art flagship shop at Patsa Building in Mafeteng.

The launch reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing convenient, reliable and customer-centred services to communities across the country.

Speaking at the official opening on Friday, ETL’s General Manager – Products and Services, Ketja Nhlapo, said the new facility demonstrates Econet’s sustained investment in enhancing customer experience nationwide.

He explained that the Mafeteng shop is designed to offer a seamless service environment, enabling customers to easily access SIM support, EcoCash services, device sales and contract solutions.

“This facility reflects our ongoing investment in enhancing customer experience across the country. This shop is designed to provide a seamless service environment, enabling customers to access SIM support, EcoCash services, device sales and contract solutions with greater ease,” Mr Nhlapo said.

He also urged community members to stop vandalising fibre infrastructure, stressing that fibre cables do not contain copper and therefore have no scrap value.

At the same event, Officer Commanding Mafeteng Police Station (OCPS), Superintendent Thato Ramarikhoane, said the police had intensified plans to prevent crime, particularly during the festive season. He said they were working closely with the community and Community Policing Forum (CPF) to curb criminal activities.

Supt Ramarikhoane further acknowledged Econet’s contribution to national connectivity and expressed concern over rising incidents of vandalism and theft targeting telecommunications infrastructure.

“I call upon the community to work closely with law enforcement agencies to protect these vital installations, because such crimes disrupt essential services, compromise safety and slow down socio-economic progress,” Supt Ramarikhoane said.

Representing the Lesotho Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Mafeteng Chapter, Mathotha Sithole commended ETL for contributing to a more vibrant and digitally enabled business environment in the district. Ms Sithole emphasised the importance of connectivity in empowering small enterprises and improving their market access.

For his part, Mafeteng District Administrator, Bonang Moranye, congratulated ETL on its expansion, noting that investments of this nature support government efforts to spur local development, improve access to services and create opportunities for young people.

“This milestone is a step forward for Mafeteng’s digital and financial inclusion. We appreciate all stakeholders for their continued partnership and reaffirm their dedication to serving the people of Mafeteng with excellence,” Mr Moranye said.
