TELECOMMUNICATIONS powerhouse, Econet Telecom Lesotho, has, through its social investment arm HigherLife Foundation Lesotho, called young and academically gifted Basotho to apply for the Moshoeshoe I Scholarship.
The scholarship is open for youths who have completed their high school and wish to pursue studies in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The closing date for applications is 8 June 2024.
The scholarship is named after the revered founder of the Basotho nation, King Moshoeshoe I.
According to Econet’s Public Relations and Customer Experience Manager, Puleng Masoabi, this prestigious scholarship is meant to foster educational empowerment and socio-economic development in Lesotho, providing deserving young Basotho with access to quality education, paving the way for a generation of skilled and empowered leaders.
“Since its launch in 2022, the Moshoeshoe I Scholarship has been instrumental in transforming the educational landscape of Lesotho, offering opportunities that transcend financial constraints. The program has enabled talented students that are passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects to pursue their academic aspirations at reputable institutions both locally and internationally,” said Ms Masoabi.
Ms Masoabi further pointed out that by opening the applications portal for the third cohort of Moshoeshoe I scholars, HigherLife Foundation Lesotho and Econet reaffirm their commitment to nurturing the potential of Basotho youth, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive progress and innovation in their respective communities.
“The Moshoeshoe I Scholarship is not merely about providing financial assistance but is testament to the belief that education is the cornerstone of development and nation-building. Through mentorship, career guidance, and leadership training, the program aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also socially conscious and actively engaged in addressing the challenges facing the mountain kingdom.
“By fostering a culture of excellence and service, the scholarship recipients are poised to become catalysts for positive change, carrying forward the legacy of King Moshoeshoe I,” reiterated Ms Masoabi.
One of the foundations of the Moshoeshoe I Scholarships is the emphasis on academic excellence. Prospective applicants are encouraged to demonstrate not only their academic prowess but also their commitment to extracurricular activities, community service, and leadership potential.
“By recognizing and rewarding exceptional talent, the program aims to inspire a culture of excellence and innovation, motivating others to strive for greatness and contribute meaningfully to the development of Lesotho,” emphasized Ms Masoabi
As the Moshoeshoe I Scholarship enters its third cohort, the program continues to evolve and expand, reaching new heights of impact and influence.
With each successive cohort, the pool of talented young Basotho who benefit from this initiative grows, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond individual beneficiaries.
The opening of applications for the third cohort of the Moshoeshoe I Scholarship marks another milestone in the journey towards educational empowerment and socioeconomic transformation in Lesotho.
“We urge Basotho under the age of 21, who have recently completed LGCSE studies and have performed exceptionally well to make use of this opportunity by applying for this scholarship before the 8 June 2024 deadline.”
Through this initiative, HigherLife Foundation Lesotho and Econet Telecom Lesotho reaffirm their unwavering commitment to investing in the future leaders of Lesotho, ensuring young Basotho can pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
As applications open, aspiring scholars are encouraged to seize this opportunity and embark on a journey of academic excellence, leadership, and service, guided by the timeless principles of King Moshoeshoe I, Ms Masoabi concluded.
