MASERU was brought to a virtual standstill on Friday as telecommunications giant Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) launched its Econet Gives You More festive season campaign which will see lucky customers walk away with M500 000 worth of prizes.
A convoy of hooting vehicles and motor bikes had residents in different parts of the city momentarily transfixed as the festive campaign roared into life.
In this three-month campaign, lucky Econet subscribers will walk away with different prizes such as M10 000 cash prizes, laptops, cellphones, airtime, data and smart televisions. Customers will also participate in trolley dashes and win school fees every day for the next three months. More prizes will be won on a weekly and monthly basis.
To stand a chance of winning, all the customers need to do is to send the word ‘WIN’ or ‘ECOCASH’ to 65100 via SMS free of charge. They will then accumulate winning points each time they buy data or transact on their mobile money platform- Ecocash.
New subscribers need to buy and recharge with Sk’haftin vouchers for the first time and get five points to automatically enter the draw. Data users, they will accumulate one point for buying M10 data bundles.
ETL’s acting general manager in the products and services section, ‘Mapusetso Ntšekhe, explained that while the campaign is intended to give back to the community, it is also meant to highlight the importance of internet usage in today’s society.
“Our campaign recognises the growing global demand for internet usage and the role the internet plays in economic development of nations,” Ms Ntšekhe said.
“We also want to see our country progressing in that regard and that is why through this campaign we want to showcase our various internet services as Econet.
“In today’s age, there is not much one can do without using the internet, so the internet is going to play a big part in whatever we do going forward.”
Ms Ntšekhe said that the festive season is time for joy and celebration and presents a perfect opportunity to let people know more about the company’ s innovative and value-laden products.
“One of the deciding factors to the selection of prizes is the increasing number of scholarship request letters that we receive on a daily basis. That is why we included school fees as one of the prizes in an effort to meet our customers halfway,” Ms Ntšekhe said.
